From the President of the Vermont AMTA
Spring 2010
President’s Message
As there is a tremendous amount of activity happening in the Vermont Chapter of the AMTA right now, I will use this opportunity to highlight your chapter’s board meeting on Sunday, April 11th in Middlebury, Vermont.
The first big item discussed was a change in this year’s budget to accommodate the push towards the regulation of massage therapy in Vermont. This effort is a statewide effort involving all massage therapists and a team effort between the AMTA and ABMP as well as Sally Hacking, an independent consultant. You can find more specific details both in Chris Widlund’s Government Relations and Treasurer’s reports. You may also contact Chris with any questions you may have.
Committee reports gave us the following information pertaining to you as a member.
The membership phone call campaign that began in January and has board members calling all of our members will conclude May 31st. We will also be sending out our new Vermont Chapter logo decal as soon as they are out of production. Check your mail! These decals will also be used to welcome new members and for chapter fundraising events.
We are very excited to announce our presenter for this year’s annual meeting, Marjorie Brook, who will be teaching Lower Body Active Isolated Stretching (AIS). Check out Andrea Altman’s educational article for further details. This educational offering, in conjunction with our annual membership meeting, will be a great value with 16 NCTMB CEUs, included Saturday lunch, a white elephant auction, and raffle prizes.
In the communications department, Amy Holibaugh is upgrading our website and has updated our chapter Facebook page and has us on Twitter as well. Soon, you will find quarterly board email minutes posted on the website. Also, look forward to your summer edition of the newsletter coming in the mail as well as being posted on our chapter website.
Terye Wohnus presented a brief overview of the AMTA New England Regional Conference (NERC) held this past March. If you missed the conference, you missed out on an opportunity to receive 15 NCTMB approved CEUs including ethics, all of your meals, and terrific social opportunities for only $349.00 at pre-registration. Think about it for next year. Also think about joining the Planning Committee and teaming up with Terye Wohnus.
Another big decision came with the chapter video/DVD library. Due to an increased availability of educational materials online, the Board decided to disband the library. An email was sent to all chapter members with a list of available videos and DVD’s, and we are selling them as a chapter fundraiser. Karen Rarick, who fills many shoes, will be spearheading this offering.
Amy Holibaugh has volunteered to head out to Evanston, IL for the annual Chapter Volunteer Orientation Program (CVOP) this coming July 8-11, 2010. Thank you, Amy, and we look forward to you bringing back information which will allow us to better meet our members’ needs.
Our last highlight - but not the least - was the announcement of the Vermont Chapter Meritorious Award for 2010, Amy Holibaugh. In addition, you helped nominate Chris Widlund for the National Government Relations Activist Award. Congratulations to both Amy & Chris and thank you for your input.
Now, get out and enjoy the sun!
George
Marjorie Brook will be offering 16 CEUs on Lower Body Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) at the Stoweflake Spa and Resort in Stowe on November 5-7, 2010.
